2 dead, 8 injured in Shurugwi run over accident

Two people died on the spot and eight wild fruits vendors  were injured after being run -over by a Toyota Axio motor vehicle which veered off the road yesterday around 1700hours at the 30km peg along the Gweru – Zvishavane Road in Shurugwi.

The ten were selling wild fruits along the roadside when the accident occured.

Police has identified the deceased as Svodai Muzingwani and Rachael Nyati both of Village Mangwendere under Chief Nhema, Shurugwi.
According to Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko,  Tavonga Nyengera (35) of Silver Oaks flats, Gweru was driving the motor vehicle in the Shurugwi direction from Gweru. “On arrival at the above mentioned point of the road, it veered off the road to the right and hit 10 vendors who were selling wild fruits. Two people died on the spot and 8 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Police attended the scene and transported the dead bodies and the injured eight people to Shurugwi hospital. Of the injured persons, eight were admitted in the hospital while one was treated and discharged,” said Mahoko.

Mahoko urged the motoring public to avoid speeding and to exercise caution when approaching pedestrians.
