Two women, who are co-wives in a polygamous marriage, have been arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Gokwe for illegal possession of dagga at their homestead in Siyachangura Village, under Chief Simuchembo in Gokwe North.
The suspects, identified as Rosemary Siangumbula (47) and Queen Sijima (39), were apprehended on August 15, 2024, after police received a tip-off. Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the Midlands Police Spokesperson, confirmed the arrest.
“It is confirmed that ZRP Gokwe arrested two women—Rosemary Siangumbula aged 47 and Queen Sijima aged 39—for illegal possession of dagga at their homestead at Siyachangura Village, under Chief Simuchembo in Gokwe North. They were arrested on 15 August 2024 by a team of police officers who were on patrol, following a tip-off,” said Inspector Mahoko.
The police investigation established that the two suspects are married to John Mudhenda (51) in a polygamous relationship and live in separate huts. During the arrest, police searched Rosemary’s hut and found four 20-litre buckets and a small plastic bag full of prepared dagga. Queen’s hut was also searched, leading to the discovery of a sack full of loose dried dagga.
“The two suspects were taken to Gokwe Police Station for documentation of their case before appearing in court on 17 August 2024. The recovered dagga is being held as exhibits. Its street value is yet to be ascertained,” Inspector Mahoko added.
The police have since reminded the public that the possession of dangerous drugs without a license is a serious crime.
