Zanu PF tackle drugs, violence head on

In a show of unity against violence, drug and substance abuse, Zanu PF members took to the streets of Amaveni, Kwekwe yesterday to raise awareness and promote a safer community.

The march was organized by Kwekwe Central aspiring legislator, Energy Dhala Ncube, alongside his council aspirants colleagues, Edumakomborero Mlambo (Ward 8) and Blessing Murenga (Ward 7).

In an interview Ncube emphasized the detrimental impact of drugs and substance abuse on society, citing it as a prominent catalyst for violence.

“Violent behavior is caused by drug and substance abuse in most cases. We are saying politicians must not buy alcohol for people to become violent. President Emerson Mnangagwa is on record saying we should be peaceful as we approach the elections, let us campaign freely and let us have tolerance, this is the message we are spreading among the electorate,” said Cde Ncube.

Ncube said he plans to resuscitate recreational facilities and resurrect some sporting disciplines to keep the youths busy.

“We want to resuscitate the boxing arena, the tennis court, and the stadium so that our youths can spend time doing something meaningful,” he said.

Mlambo said that drugs are a big issue in his ward and community should take it upon themselves to fight the menace.

“We have a lot of drug peddlers in the Ward and they are causing problems to our children. This campaign will go a long way in reducing the problem. We are saying every member of the community should play their role in flashing out these drug bases,” he said.

Zanu PF members, brandishing banners and chanting slogans promoting peace and sobriety, marched through the bustling streets of Amaveni, capturing the attention of passersby.

Amaveni wards 7 and 8 are tagged as the hub of drug bases and dealers who have created bases are bent on milking every cent from mostly teenagers hooked on mbanje, crystal meth amongst other drugs.

Recently a drug rehabilitation centre was opened in Amaveni Hall by Kwekwe City Council but it is said there is low uptake of the services.

Amaveni residents hailed the move by the aspiring candidates noting that unity against violence, drug and substance abuse is essential for the progress and well-being of the community.
