A local company, EquipZim fell victim to daring armed robbers, resulting in a significant loss of cash and valuable property recently.

Police confirmed the incident that took place last Wednesday around 1600 hours when three unidentified men armed with a rifle and two iron bars ambushed the complainant and his four employees.

According to Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the armed robbers approached the complainant and demanded money. Overwhelmed by fear and faced with the threat of violence, the complainant handed over an initial sum of US$797-00.

The situation quickly escalated as the robbers allegedly blindfolded the complainant and coerced him into revealing the location of the company’s safe.

“The intruders went on to blindfold him and force-marched him to the safe which they force opened with a bolt cutter and took cash amounting to US$43 000-00 and ZWL5000 and an I-pad. They then tied the complainant’s four employees’ hands with sacks and fled from the scene.

It was established that the suspects had came to the company earlier on during the day pretending to be genuine buyers and took a quotation for a jaw crusher,” said Mahoko.

Police are appealing to members of the public who might have information about the suspects to visit any nearest police station.
