Corban Madzivanyika of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has won the Mbizo Constituency parliamentary seat after garnering 15 946 votes against Zanu PF Vongaishe Mupereri who got 7 501.
The results were just announced by Mbizo Constituency Officer Steni Chamunorwa who declared Madzivanyika a winner.
“I do hereby declare that I have in accordance with the Electoral Act Chapter 2 paragraph 13 and the regulations there under ascertained the result of the poll for the said constituency and that they have been given to Corban Madzivanyika of CCC party votes 15 946, Terrence Mambende votes 305, Mupereri votes 7 507 and that I declare Corban Madzivanyika to be duly elected member of the national assembly for Mbizo Constituency.
There were 258 rejected ballot papers and the percentage poll was 67.02 percent,” said Chamunorwa.
In an interview on the sidelines of the announcement Madzivanyika said he was happy but noted that he could have garnered more votes if the environment had been level.
“I am happy but not so happy because there were electoral irregularities that could have made our winning margins bigger. We have seen a lot of challenges with names of people not appearing on the voters roll regardless of the fact that they were appearing on the voters roll way before voting day, most people were disenfranchised. Mbizo has 35 438 registered voters but only 24 101 voted, we have not seen that before. It is a shame as it disturbed voters turn out,” he said.
