Redcliff Municipality yesterday sworn in 12 councillors .
Nine of the councilors were elected and three made it through the women’s quota.
Mutero Blessing Godwin Sibanda, Vincent Shangwa Masiiwa, Clayton Masiyatsva, Fortunate Makava, Thokozani Ndebele, Luckmore Chakanetsa, Godfrey Munikwa, Willard Makonese, Tecla Keti, Josephine Mutamangira and Locadia Mukwapuna were sworn in as councilors by Redcliff Town Clerk Gilson Chakauya.
In opening remarks Chakauya addressing the councilors and gallery said the councilors should now focus on Redcliff development representing everyone without discriminating on the basis of political party affiliation.
“The time for politicking is done, some of you might have voted for this one or that one but from now these councilors are working for everyone. A councilor represents everyone the oath they are about to take speaks to that,” he said.
Kwekwe District Coordinator Fortune Mupungu echoed the same sentiments rallying them to unite for the betterment of Redcliff.
“You have been sworn in and you are no longer politicians. You are now civic leaders who must represent the people without favour. You made promises to the people to deliver now you should transform the promises and deliver. We are ready to assist you as government departments, government agencies so you should go back and serve everyone regardless of political affiliations,” he said.
Mupungu said the councilors should work towards providing efficient delivery services.
“People’s expectations are high and they expect you to deliver. You are an engine for development and the community is looking at to you to propel it,” he said.
