Kwekwe deputy mayor promises improved service

Kwekwe City Council Ward 5 Councillor Melody Chingarande, the recently elected Kwekwe deputy mayor promised to champion service delivery throughout her term.

Chingarande, a former deputy mayor for the local authority will be deputising former Health Minister, Dr Henry Madzorera who was elected mayor.

“I would like to continue pushing for improved service delivery in my ward and the city at large. We have outstanding projects which we are going to work on,” she said.

As exclusively reported by this publication, Chingarande has secured Kwekwe’s second most influential post.

Chingarande landed the post unopposed.

She expressed gratitude to people in her ward.

“I would like to thank people in Ward 5 for giving me the mantle to represent them in council. They are the very first people to vote for me to represent them. They chose me to represent them in terms of service delivery issues,” she said.

She also called for unity amongst councilors.

“I would like to express gratitude to my fellow councilors who have expressed confidence in me by electing me deputy mayor. More importantly, I urge councilors to leave party politics outside the chamber the moment we are in the house. We are there to represent residents, all the residents in Kwekwe despite their political affiliations,” she said.

Kwekwe currently has 18 councilors however, only four are females, with Chingarande being the only elected councilor, while the remaining three include two from the CCC who are Helena Nkosana, Janet Ticharunga and Zanu-PF’s Dieless Muradzikwa came through the women quota system.
