CCC councillors snub Mudha

By Staff Reporter
Opposition CCC councillors were this week in no show during an assesment tour of storm ravaged disaster which hit most parts of Kwekwe resulting in loss of property.
Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Owen Ncube was leading the delegation which amongst other areas toured Sally Mugabe Primary School which is also housing learners from Globe and Phoenix Primary who were left with no shelter after their school mid this year caved in following incessant mining activities around the school.
In Midlands Province the storms claimed the life of one while 131 households across the province were affected.
Kwekwe Mayor Henry Madzorera said that though councillors are not going to the chamber they are still working with the people in their communities.
“As per the directive from our CCC party we disengaged from council business which means we are not going to the chamber to conduct any council business. However, our councillors are still very active on the ground we are in touch with our communities and we are well aware of the challenges which they are facing,” he said.
The disengagement has seen budget consultations being postponed indefinetely a situation which has grounded service delivery as the city is battling a myriad of service delivery challenges.
“A budget consultation is a product between residents, councillors and management. Therefore, without the input of councillors there will be no consultations. In the meantime, its difficult to say when councillors will be going back to work as the situation which we find ourselves in is very dynamic. We may go back to work tommorow, or next or anytime, as long as the impasse has been resolved,” he said.
In Kwekwe at least 27 houses were damaged while 13 families are in dire need of shelter.

While in Redcliff a 1-year-9-month -old baby was injured and 32 houses affected.
Elsewhere across the province in Gokwe South three primary schools were damaged by the storm.
