Four Apostolic sect members lost cellphones on 29 October 2023 to three unknown robbers who pounced on them at their shrine in Amaveni, Kwekwe.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the robbery occurred around 1030 hours after three unknown robbers pounced on them as they were conducting a service at their shrine in Amaven, Kwekwe.
“On the fateful day, the three unknown suspects emerged from the bush armed with knives, catapults, and a sjambok and threatened the four, demanding all their valuables.
The four complainants, all females; Netsai Hlatshwayo, Nokhuthula Gwisayi, Nyarai Francisca Jonasi, and Everjoy Pauline Mpofu yielded to the demands and handed their cell phones all valued at $335USD. The suspects then fled the scene,” he said.
“Amaveni police was informed and instituted investigations leading to the arrest of one of the suspects Gift Kumirayi (25) of Mbizo, Kwekwe. Two suspects identified as Trymore Makandlela and Kelvin Musina, both of Kwekwe are still on the run. The stolen three cell phones were recovered from the suspect.
Kumirayi is assisting the police with investigations and he has since been linked with other robbery cases committed in and around Kwekwe,” said Mahoko.
“We thank members of the public for cooperating with the police which led to the arrest of the suspect. We also appeal for information on the whereabouts of Trymore Makandlela and Kelvin Musina,” said Mahoko.
