Two candidates from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) filed their nominations papers for Kwekwe City Council Ward 9 by-election set for the 3rd of February 2024.
Simon Machisvo was elected back into council during the 23 August 2023 elections but was recalled by Sengezo Tshabangu who claims to be CCC interim secretary general. Machisvo was recalled with Ward 5 councillor Melody Chingarande and former mayor Henry Madzorera.
Announcing successful candidates at the close of the nomination court at Kwekwe City Council yesterday Zec District Elections officer Assan Mkwananzi said two CCC aspirants had filed their papers to contest in Ward 9.
“In Ward 9 we received nomination papers from Judah Maxwell Chimombo of Zanu PF, Simon Machisvo of CCC, and Proud Ndhlovu of CCC,” he said.
In an interview after yesterday’s nomination court, Machisvo said he is not worried by the double candidacy.
“The voters know who is for real and who is after monetary gain. I am a core CCC member, and Chamisa is the only leader I know. We will not be derailed by people who are after money,” said Machisvo.
Meanwhile, Madzorera has thrown in the towel as he did not tender in his papers for reelection into the Kwekwe City Council.
Solomon Matsa of Zanu PF and Livias Njerera of CCC filed papers for Ward 10.
In Ward 5 Chingarande will face Tapiwa Muganhu of Zanu PF.
