A tragic incident unfolded in Mapfumo Village, Chief Njelele area, as a Zhombe SDA Primary School teacher, Simon Mutowodza (57), met a horrific end in a suspected suicide case on December 30, 2023.

Mutowodza, who lived alone following his separation from his wife, was found burnt to death inside his Toyota Porte vehicle.
The sequence of events began when a villager noticed flames emanating from Mutowodza’s car and promptly alerted his friend, Garikai Muchina. Together with other villagers, they attempted to douse the fire but were unsuccessful, using soil in their efforts. After an hour-long struggle, they finally managed to extinguish the flames, only to make a grim discovery. Mutowodza’s remains, reduced to ashes, were found in the back seat of the vehicle.
Adding to the mysterious circumstances, earlier that day, Mutowodza had reportedly been involved in an accident when his vehicle collided with a donkey a few kilometers from Gokwe Centre. Strangely, no police report was made regarding this incident.
A police report was made and investigations into the tragic incident are ongoing, seeking clarity on the perplexing series of events that led to the teacher’s untimely demise.
