Kwekwe City Council Ward 8 Councillor Edu Makomborero Mlambo has accused some unscrupulous business people in Amaveni for reportedly selling stale meat and meat contaminated with insecticides to unsuspecting residents.
Speaking during a recent full council meeting Mlambo rapped the business owners for such a bad business practice as this is exposing residents to diseases.
“I would like to alert our health department to a looming health hazard in Amaveni. Some butcheries in Amaveni are selling stale meat which will be infested with gangrene to unsuspecting members of the public,” he said.
He added that in a bid to fight off some flies, some butcheries spray insecticides such as Doom on the insects, however, some of the insecticides end up contaminating the meat.
“I am equally a victim, and the smell of the pesticide cannot be removed. If the issue is not resolved quickly Amaveni is a disaster waiting to happen, these butchers are exposing people to health complications,” said Mlambo.
Mlambo said due to rolling blackouts being experienced in Amaveni some of the meat is going stale in the process inviting flies and heavy use of insecticides.
“The terrible smell of the meat invites flies and they use Doom to kill the flies some of the fragrance is strapped inside the refrigerators therefore contaminating the meat,” he said.
Mlambo said to mitigate the risks there is need to reintroduce random health inspections.
“Like before there is a need to have those health inspections to suppress the dangers this might cause,” he said.
