The body of an unknown female adult was found floating in the Gokwe sewage plant by a 17-year-old boy who was herding cattle on the 9th of January 2024.

According to sources the boy discovered the naked body floating in the pond and ran home to inform other villagers who then went to the pond before informing the police.

“We just heard that a body was found in the sewage ponds and it was a woman who was naked.

Two unused condoms were also found floating in the sewage pond next to the body. We failed to identify the body and we hope the police will investigate,” said one villager from Dzavo Village, Chief Njelele

One villager Ignatious Nyaku then proceeded to ZRP Gokwe and made a report.

Meanwhile Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Mahoko has confirmed the incident which he said is being treated as a suspected murder case.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a suspected murder case in which an approximately 18-21 year old woman was found dead floating in a sewer pond in Gokwe on 9 January 2024 at around 1800hours. The body was retrieved and during inspection fresh bruises on the waist and back were observed. The body was naked and the clothes could not be found serve for a torn undergarment which was close by. It is suspected that the victim might have been sexually abused before being killed,” he said.

Inspector Mahoko called on members of the public with information pertaining to this suspected murder to approach police.
