Mbizo woman steals baby in Shurugwi

A 19-year-old Mbizo woman was apprehended by members of the public after she kidnapped a three-month-old baby at Pamumvuri bus terminus, Shurugwi on 22 January 2024 at around 1515 hours.

According to Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko,  Rudo Jakarasi stole the three-month-old baby girl from Charity Machau (31) who stays at Gutsaruzhinji co-operative, Shurugwi.

“Circumstances are that on 22 January 2024 Charity Machau a female aged 31 years of Gutsaruzhinji co-operative, Shurugwi was selling green mealies at Pamumvuri Bus terminus. She laid her three-month-old baby girl on the table while doing her business.

It is alleged that she was approached by the now suspect Rudo Jakarasi of Mbizo, Kwekwe who appeared to be in trouble and asked to use her cellphone saying, she lost hers on a bus. Machau handed her the cell phone and continued with her work.  After a while she discovered that Rudo was nowhere, she checked for her baby and found that the baby was also missing,” said Inspector Mahoko.

Machau it is said alerted other vendors who also joined her in searching for Jakarasi and the baby.

“The suspect was caught along Gweru-Zvishavane road. The baby was recovered in a stable condition and the suspect was handed over to the Police,” said Inspector Mahoko.

Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to be careful when dealing with strangers who appear to need help yet they have sinister motives.
