A Mberengwa man from Village Mhlauri, Chief Mposi area, committed suicide on 9 May 2024 after he nearly killed his wife following a misunderstanding over church attendance.

Godknows Dube (40) hanged himself after he nearly killed his wife for not attending a church service.

Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Dube arrived home and had a misunderstanding with his wife concerning her failure to attend a church service.

“It is alleged that during the misunderstanding Godknows Dube attacked his wife with an unknown object on the head.

She cried for help and he panicked upon realising that he had injured his wife, a neighbour rushed to the homestead to investigate the distress call. Upon realising that their neighbour had arrived he threatened the neighbour with a machete if she tried to intervene. The neighbour  ran away to seek help from other fellow neighbours,” he said.
Inspector Mahoko said Dube took a Zesa cable and got into his bedroom hut. “When other villagers arrived, they found Dube already dead, with a Zesa cable around his neck hanging from a roof truss of his bedroom hut,” said Inspector Mahoko.

Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to solve disputes amicably.
“Once again the police are appealing to members of the public to solve their disputes or differences amicably by engaging a third parties. Use of violence constitutes an offence and also leads to unnecessary loss of lives,” said Inspector Mahoko.
