SHURUGWI – A 52-year-old man from Rockford Farm, Shurugwi, was found dead yesterday morning in his ex-lover’s bedroom in Village Marufu, Chief Nhema area.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the death is being treated as a sudden death, as Bright Sibanda was found hanging from a roof truss in his ex-girlfriend Tariro Mutsvanga’s (54) bedroom.

Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said that on 18 June 2023, Sibanda visited his former girlfriend, Mutsvanga, seeking reconciliation.

“The report came that on 18 June 2023, Sibanda went to his former girlfriend Tariro Mutsvanga (54) of Village Marufu, Chief Nhema’s area homestead for reconciliation. The two had separated over domestic violence-related issues. She turned down his request, and he insisted that he would not leave the premises until she accepted him.

The girlfriend sought intervention from her uncle, who resides in the same village. He came and asked Sibanda to go away and return the following day, as it was late. The uncle then took his niece to his homestead for her safety.

The following day, at around 0700 hours, Mutsvanga went back to her homestead and found Sibanda’s body hanging from the roof trusses in her bedroom. She noticed that he had used an unknown object to smash the bedroom window pane and gained entry into the room, where he used a copper cable to hang himself,” said Inspector Mahoko.

Inspector Mahoko urged the public to exercise patience in resolving their disputes.

“We urge members of the public to exercise patience in having their cases mediated upon,” he said.
