In a chilling act of rage, a Sherwood man was arrested after allegedly bludgeoning his girlfriend to death in the early hours of 3 November 2024. The swift actions of vigilant community members led to the arrest of 51-year-old Christopher Ncube, now facing murder charges following the tragic death of 31-year-old Grace Magogodla.
According to Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the violent incident unfolded at Machakwi Cropping Compound in Sherwood. The night had started innocently, with Ncube and Magogodla sharing drinks with other patrons at a local beerhall. However, tensions escalated when Ncube left the gathering, only to later hear his girlfriend’s voice in the room next to his. Acting on suspicion, he armed himself with a log and confronted Magogodla, discovering her with her ex-boyfriend, Doubt Chinyanga. Chinyanga reportedly fled the scene, leaving Ncube and Magogodla in a heated confrontation.
Events turned deadly when Ncube allegedly dragged Magogodla back to his room and fatally struck her on the head with the log. Shocked villagers quickly responded, mobilizing to apprehend Ncube before he could escape and promptly handed him over to the police.
The police have praised the Sherwood community’s decisive response.
“We would like to urge members of the public to solve disputes in a peaceful manner other than violence. We also would like to thank the community for apprehending the suspect Christopher Ncube as he was likely to run away after commission of the offence,” he said.
