A Zhombe man who made headlines last week for stealing women’s pants has been jailed.
Panashe Nyabanda (37) from Chief Samambwa, Zhombe, was convicted of theft on Friday by Kwekwe Magistrate Mildred Matuvi for stealing 45 pairs of women’s pants.
He faced eight charges related to the same crime.
Nyabanda was sentenced to 18 months in prison with six months of the sentence suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar crime within the next five years. He will serve 12 months in prison.
In his appearance before Magistrate Mildred Mutuvi, Nyabanda pleaded guilty, revealing that he had been hired by a local businessman to steal 200 pairs of pants in exchange for $500, and had already received a $20 deposit.
Nyabanda began his stealing spree on December 12, 2024, when he stole a pair of pants from victims (names withheld) at Sidhakeni shops and the vicinity.
