GOKWE – Three brothers have been arrested in connection with an attempted murder following a brutal assault on a married couple in Village Ngwegwe, under Chief Nemangwe, Gokwe, on 12 February 2025.
The suspects, Moven(24), Malvin (19), and Misheba Chemusonde (18), all of Village Ngwegwe, allegedly attacked the couple, Agreement Sibanda (59) and his wife, Sarah Hlanganiso, in the dead of night.
According to Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the three men arrived at the Sibanda household around 2300hours and demanded that Sibanda come out of his house. When he refused, the Chemusonde men threatened to burn down the house.
“Upon refusing to comply with the threats, the three men attacked Agreement Sibanda, beating him with logs all over his body. His wife, Sarah Hlanganiso, attempted to intervene, but she was also assaulted before fleeing the scene to escape further harm,” Inspector Mahoko said.
The brutal assault left Sibanda unconscious, and the three suspects fled the scene after leaving him on the ground. The police were alerted and rushed to the scene. Sibanda was taken to Gokwe South District Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
The three men were later arrested and are currently assisting the police with investigations.
Inspector Mahoko urged community members to resolve disputes peacefully, highlighting the dangers of resorting to violence in the face of conflicts.
“We urge people to solve their disputes amicably and avoid using violence. This incident is a stark reminder of the consequences of aggression and hostility,” he said.
