The Kwekwe City parking case is set to be heard as a criminal matter at the Kwekwe Magistrates Court tomorrow, an official has revealed.
Kwekwe City Council Ward 1 Councillor and Finance Chairperson, Alex Senge, recently informed a full council meeting that the case had been escalated to the criminal court.
Senge made the disclosure in response to a request for an update from Councillor Kudakwashe Gwamuri.
“The case is no longer a civil matter; it is now a criminal case, CR70/984, and it will be heard on the 4th of March 2025 as a criminal charge against the city council,” he said.
The case was initially heard as a civil matter in November last year before Magistrate Itai Kagwere. This followed a legal challenge by resident Tafadzwa Gambiza, who filed papers contesting the operations of the city’s parking system. The system had introduced parking marshals in the Central Business District to collect parking fees.
