Zhong Jin International Hotel officially opened its doors today in Redcliff.

The hotel was officially opened by the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Barbara Rwodzi.

The new hotel is being hailed as a game-changing investment that will boost local tourism, create jobs, and strengthen Zimbabwe-China relations.

“This state-of-the-art facility we are witnessing today, here in Midlands Province, is a testament to the favourable investment policies that the Second Republic has put in place,” said Minister Rwodzi.

“Investments such as this hotel are game changers – not only for the tourism industry but for our economy as a whole. They create jobs, stimulate growth of value chain industries, and improve the quality of life for local communities,” she said.

With over 120 jobs already created – most of them benefiting locals – the Zhong Jin International Hotel is the first of its kind in the province. Boasting 87 rooms, a world-class casino, a Chinese and local cuisine restaurant, a supermarket, karaoke city, conference facilities and more, the hotel is redefining tourism convenience under one elegant roof.

“I am told that more than US$15 million has been invested in this facility, showing how committed Mr.  Yolo Cheng and his team are in ensuring a thriving tourism industry in Zimbabwe,” the minister said.

Speaking at the same event, Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Hon. Kazembe Kazembe, underscored the economic and diplomatic impact of the project.

“I want to thank our investors for believing in the country’s investment climate. This investment has created jobs for our locals. We also want to thank the President for creating an environment that attracts investors. However, I must emphasise that your casino and gaming zone should not be used as a conduit for money laundering,” he said.

He added, “The Second Republic is impressed by the opportunities brought about by this investment, which further cements the bilateral relations between Harare and Beijing. This is a game-changer, having stimulated growth in the tourism value chain.”

Minister Rwodzi encouraged the introduction of local culinary offerings to complement the facility’s international flair.

“I want to urge Mr. Cheng and his team to embrace this call and introduce local traditional foods in this hotel. Remember, food is an attraction. People don’t travel to experience their day-to-day lifestyle – they want new experiences, including food. This will also benefit surrounding farming communities,” she said.

The opening of Zhong Jin International Hotel aligns with the Ministry’s tourism cluster approach, encompassing areas such as Nature and Wildlife, Culture and Heritage, Business, Religious, Medical and Sports Tourism – all of which are relevant to the Midlands Province.

“Casinos have long been a key feature of the tourism industry, offering a blend of gaming excitement and luxury. From the iconic allure of Las Vegas to the renowned Sun City, casinos continue to attract millions of visitors annually. We commend Minister Kazembe and his team for facilitating the establishment of a casino at this hotel,” said Minister Rwodzi.

The hotel has 130 employees – including 20 Chinese nationals and 110 locals.
