Hardrock wary of ‘dangerous’ Agama despite fine form

By Dumisani Zvandasara

In-form Hardrock FC coach Kelvin Kaindu has warned his players against complacency ahead of their Castle League clash against Agama FC at Chahwanda Stadium this Saturday.

Hardrock head into the encounter on a strong run of results, while their opponents are yet to register a win this season, but Kaindu insists the match presents one of the toughest tests for his side.

“These are the most difficult games because on paper everyone believes that you have already won. We need to work on the mental preparedness. Football is played on the field. As much as they have not been winning, they are not a pushover,” said Kaindu.

The Hardrock gaffer pointed to Agama’s recent performances as evidence that the struggling side could spring a surprise, citing their draw against Dynamos FC and a recent match in which they had two goals disallowed.

“They managed to get a point from Dynamos and scored goals in their last game, even though they were disallowed. That shows they are capable,” he said.

Kaindu, however, is encouraged by improvements within his own squad, with several key players returning from injury ahead of the weekend fixture.

He confirmed that defender Andrew, who has missed the last three matches, has returned to training, while midfielder Martin is also back in contention, giving the technical team more options.

“In terms of selection, we now have one or two more options compared to the last game,” he said.

Hardrock’s recent attacking form has also boosted confidence in the camp, particularly following a four-goal performance against Herentals FC.

Kaindu said some of the goals scored were a direct result of work done on the training ground, although he stressed that the team was still a work in progress.

“It is still a process. There is a lot of work to be done, but we are improving with each game,” he said.

The coach also acknowledged the growing competitiveness of the league, noting that several teams remain unbeaten and even the most defensively solid sides have begun to concede.

“That shows how competitive the league is going to be. We want to maximise especially when we are playing at home,” he said.

Kaindu added that a strong fan support, including travelling supporters in recent matches, has helped build confidence within the squad.

Despite Hardrock’s upward trajectory, the coach remains cautious, reiterating that no match is won before kick-off.

“Our biggest enemy is complacency. Everyone anticipates three points when you play teams at the bottom, but football doesn’t work like that,” he said.

“We just have to prepare physically, mentally and psychologically so that we compete properly.”

Agama have declared their intention to turn their season around in the fixture, but Kaindu said his side respects all opponents and will let their performance on the pitch do the talking.

Hardrock will be aiming to maintain momentum and secure maximum points in front of their home supporters as the league campaign gathers pace.
