The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed an armed robbery at Metro Peach Wholesale in Kwekwe, which took place in the early hours of July 25, 2024. According to a report by Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the incident occurred around midnight when six unidentified suspects, armed with a gun, attacked the wholesale.
Police said the robbers confronted two security guards on duty, forcibly gaining entry into the premises. They disabled the lights and alarm systems before proceeding to the guard room, where they tied the guards with ropes.
“Once inside the shop, the intruders used explosives to blast open the safe, making off with cash in various currencies: US$23,010, ZWG21,840, and ZAR24,320. After committing the robbery, the suspects fled the scene, leaving the guards bound.
The security guards eventually freed themselves and alerted the police. Officers from ZRP Kwekwe Central Police Station responded to the report and conducted a crime scene investigation. At this time, no arrests have been made, and the stolen money has not been recovered,” said Inspector Mahoko.
Inspector Mahoko urged anyone with information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspects to contact their nearest police station. The police are actively seeking leads to solve this case and bring the perpetrators to justice.
