Catholic Church joins hospital revival

The Roman Catholic Church has joined the government and Redcliff Municipality in reviving Torwood Hospital which has been lying idle since 2012.
In a bid to enhance healthcare services and bolster the local medical infrastructure, Vice President and Minister of Health Constantino Chiwenga announced a joint effort between the government, Redcliff Municipality, and the Catholic Church to revive Torwood Hospital.
The hospital, along with Bell Medical Centre, was acquired by the municipality at the cost of US$650,000 from former ambassador Arikana Chihombori Quao.

Addressing thousands of Zanu PF party supporters today at Torwood Stadium, VP Chiwenga emphasized the significance of prioritizing the reopening of Torwood Hospital.
“The issue which brought me here today is that of Torwood Hospital. I toured it this morning and we as the Ministry of Health, are working together with Redcliff Municipality and the Catholic Church to revive it. The hospital has been placed on top priority so that we can put medical equipment, nurses, and doctors for it to be functional,” he said.
He said that the outpatient department would be the first section to be operationalized, enabling the hospital to immediately begin serving the community’s medical needs.
“What we will first do is work on the outpatient department so that people can get medical help,” he said.

Torwood Hospital, once a prominent healthcare facility in Redcliff closed down after facing a host of challenges and the joint initiative aims to inject vital resources and expertise to revitalize the hospital’s operations and restore it to its former glory.

While the exact timeline for the resuscitation of Torwood Hospital remains undisclosed, the concerted efforts of the government, Redcliff Municipality, and the Catholic Church instill hope within the local community.
“The reopening of the outpatient department will mark a significant milestone in the hospital’s revival, allowing us as residents to receive the much-needed medical attention closer to home. Most times we were forced to travel to Kwekwe to access medical services,” said Imran Chabwe of P section, Torwood.

The Hospital according to Redcliff Municipality has a bed capacity of 95 offering dental, radiography, and theatre services. to enhance healthcare services and bolster the local medical infrastructure, Vice President Chiwenga announced a joint effort between the government, Redcliff Municipality, and the Catholic Church to revive Torwood Hospital.
