Eight-men gang murders villager in Zhombe

In a tragic incident on the night of 23 March 2025, a 36-year-old man, Loveson Mpofu, was brutally murdered by a gang of eight men at Bvudzijena Farm, Chief Ntabeni, Zhombe. According to a statement by the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the assault occurred around 10:00 PM.

Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the Midlands Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident, revealing that Mpofu, along with two other men, was returning from Bob’s Business Centre when they were ambushed by the gang. The suspects, identified as Sylvester Ndlovu (22), Supriano Lunga, Ryan Danga, Mark Joe, and four others known only by their first names, Simbarashe, Tafadzwa, Stephene, and Tawanda, were armed with a chisel and hammer.

The assailants reportedly ordered Mpofu and his companions to sit down before proceeding to assault them with the weapons. The trio sustained serious injuries, with Mpofu succumbing to his wounds on the way to Kwekwe Hospital.

Sylvester Ndlovu has been arrested in connection with the crime, while the remaining seven suspects are still at large. The police are now appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the arrest of the other suspects.

“We urge anyone with information about the whereabouts of the remaining suspects to come forward. Your assistance will be invaluable in helping us bring justice to the victim’s family,” said Inspector Mahoko.

The motive behind the attack is still under investigation. However, the police have vowed to continue pursuing leads to ensure that those responsible for the senseless violence are brought to justice.
