Fake News: Drake High pupil kidnapped, dismembered

Authorities have dismissed as hoax reports in Redcliff that a form one learner at Drake High School was kidnapped before she was cut to pieces by an unknown gang.

Recently, the Redcliff community was bound with rumours that a female learner from Redcliff had been kidnapped by a blue Honda Fit vehicle before her private parts had been removed. The fake news circulated throughout Redcliff on various social media platforms.

Rumours also had it that a dismembered head suspected to be that of the learner was picked up near Ziscosteel premises.

Authorities have dismissed all this as a hoax.

Redcliff Municipality Ward 2 Councillor Munyaradzi Munikwa told this publication that the community had been infested with the rumour which is an outright lie.

“The community had been infested with a rumour that a learner from Drake High School had been kidnapped by a blue Honda Fit with her dismembered body to picked near Ziscosteel premises. These are mere rumours which have been circulating without any substance,” he said.

Redcliff Mayor Clayton Masiyatsva said he never received such a report.

“I never received such a report of anything of that sort, if it was true we would have known as a community,” he said.

Drake High School headmaster Mapingire dismissed the reports.

“Those are false rumours we do not have such a situation at our school,” he said.

District Schools Inspector Herbert Maziriri said no such incident happened in his district.

“As a district, we never received such a report from Drake High School there is nothing like that. All is well at Drake High School,” he said.

Ziscosteel authorities added they didn’t come across such a situation.

“We did not have anything like that within our premises, those are mere rumours,” Sebastian Manyika Ziscosteel Public Relations Manager said.

Police in Redcliff also dismissed the incident.
