A four-month-old baby died on 23 October 2025 at about 1900 hours at Domboshava, Mberengwa when she fell from her mothers back during a fight with the father.

The baby, Mitchelle Zhou, according to police was strapped on her mother’s back when the incident occured.

Her parents Mthandazo Zhou a man aged 23 and the mother Tawananyasha Zhou aged 18 both of Domboshava, Mberengwa are alleged to have had a misunderstanding which generated into a fight. The mother was carrying Mitchelle on her back. During the scuffle it is said the baby slipped from the mothers back and fell down and died instantly.

Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the case which is being treated as murder.

Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the parents are in custody.

“Police were alerted and attended the scene. Both parents, Mthandazo Zhou, aged 23 (father) and mother, Tawananyasha Zhou (18) are in police custody assisting with investigations. At the time of arrest, they were processing a secret burial of the body at Khumalo Village under Chief Negove, Gomonhenga area in Mberengwa,” he said.

“We are calling upon members of the public to always maintain peace in their relationships and solve disputes amicably when they arise,” said Inspector Mahoko.
