A fraudster on the prowl is allegedly impersonating Public Service Commission Midlands Provincial Co-ordinator, Andrew Chimanyiwa fleecing unsuspecting job seekers, police has said.

Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said police is investigating the cases. He said it has since been established that there are cases in Kwekwe, Gweru, Zvishavane and even in other provinces.

“May the public be informed that the Zimbabwe Republic police is investigating cases of impersonation of a Public Official with innocent job seekers being fleeced of money in the region of USD$300 to USD$400 purportedly to get employed or favourable postings in the civil service.

The fraudster identifies himself as A. Chimanyiwa using different cell phone numbers. Some of the numbers are: 0711 357 131, 0713 688 680, 0710 305 422.

Victims are instructed to deposit money in Eco cash number 0787 332 912 or Inn bucks accounts with different names,” said Inspector Mahoko.

Inspector Mahoko said so far six cases have been reported. In some cases, the fraudsters have not been successful as the targeted victims decide to call complainant Andrew Chimanyiwa to verify before depositing the requested amounts.

Chimanyiwa, the Midlands Provincial Co-ordinator reported the case to the police as it is his name which is being used.

Inspector Mahoko called on the public to be alert and not fall victim to this fraudster.

“May the public be alert and help us locate and arrest persons behind this case. In Marondera a fraudster using the same method physically approached a victim and a photograph was privately taken. May those with information that can help in the case, alert any Police Station,” he said.
