Eighteen councilors were sworn in today at Kwekwe City Council chambers by Town Clerk Dr Lucia Mkandhla.
Kwekwe has 14 councillors with 12 belonging to CCC and only two from Zanu PF. Four other councilors made it through proportional representation.
Alex Senge (Ward 1), Murapiro Albert (Ward 2), Msipa Pikurai (Ward 3), Tagara Joseph (ward 4), Melody Chingarande (Ward 5), Courage Mugabe (Ward 6), Gwamuri Milton (Ward 7), Makomborero Edu Mlambo (Ward 8) Simon Machisvo (Ward 9), Madzorera Henry (Ward 10), Panyika Nyika (Ward 11), Thomas Mahapa (Ward 12), Alphonce Mugwagwa (Ward 13), Albert Zinhanga (Ward 14), Siziwe Ncube, Dieless Muradzikwa, Janet Ticharunga and Helena Mkosana were all sworn in today.
In opening remarks, Kwekwe District Development Coordinator Fortune Mpungu said the swearing-in was being done in line with a ministerial directive and enabling statutes. Mpungu called on the councilors to set political differences aside and focus on the job at hand.
“As you are well aware council operations are guided by enabling statutes, they are also guided by the council by laws and ministerial directives so one of the ministerial directive we are to swear in councilors all over Zim then after the next step will be induction training. After the training, we will convene our first full council meeting where we will be expected to elect the mayor, deputy mayor, and various committee chairpersons.
That is the process so today is swearing in and take the oath of loyalty and take the oath of being councilors once that is done it means we are now seasoned leaders setting aside our political parties’ inclinations,” he said.
