The Midlands State University (MSU) Kwekwe Law Campus is set to open its doors in August, marking a major milestone in the decentralization of higher education in Zimbabwe.

Acting Vice Chancellor Dr. Gift Manyatera confirmed the opening date during a tour of the campus, highlighting the rapid progress made in finalizing infrastructure.

“The Midlands State University Law Campus here in Kwekwe is nearing completion, and we are confident that by August, we will be welcoming our first cohort of law students,” he said.

“The progress made so far is commendable, and we appreciate the efforts of all stakeholders who have played a role in ensuring this vision becomes a reality,” he said.

The new campus will not only offer law programs but will also house the Faculty of Agriculture and another faculty, expanding MSU’s academic reach in the Midlands Province.

Dr. Manyatera said that the campus is designed to offer world-class legal education, complete with modern lecture rooms, a dedicated law library, and moot courtrooms to provide students with hands-on legal training.

With 300 workers currently on-site, the construction phase has already created employment opportunities. Once operational, the campus will bring students, lecturers, and administrative staff to Kwekwe, stimulating demand for housing, retail services, and other local businesses.

Kwekwe Mayor Albert Zinhanga welcomed the project, noting its potential to transform the city’s economic landscape.

“As Kwekwe, we are very happy that this development will boost our GDP and position the city as a key academic hub,” he said.

Midlands Minister of State and Provincial Affairs, Owen Ncube, echoed similar sentiments, describing the law school as part of a broader national development strategy.

“The ED Mnangagwa Law School is just the tip of several other programs and projects rolled out in the Midlands Province and beyond, guided by the mantra of leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.
