The Zimbabwe Republic Police has reported a serious road traffic accident that left nine individuals with varying injuries on September 30, 2024.

The incident occurred around 0730 hours at the 247 km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road, near the Kaguvi Training Centre in Gweru.

According to Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the driver, 31-year-old Ebioneil Khesile Mlilo of Mkoba, Gweru, was at the wheel of a silver Honda Freed carrying nine passengers when the accident took place.

Preliminary investigations suggest that as Mlilo approached the 247 km peg, the vehicle veered off the road to the left, overturned multiple times, and ultimately landed on its wheels. All nine occupants, including Mlilo, sustained injuries and were transported to Gweru Provincial Hospital for treatment.

Gweru Traffic Police are currently conducting investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Inspector Mahoko emphasized the importance of road safety, urging motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and avoid speeding to prevent further incidents.
