Nine Mbizo residents were robbed on Wednesday morning at Sebakwe River Rail crossing whilst participating in a manjuzu cleansing ritual, a source has said.
The nine, Johnson Ngandini (54) of Amaveni, Snap Dube (48) of Mbizo 10, Tinotenda Urayayi (21), Future Rwodzi (30), Precious Chingwa (28), Concillia Jenta Chingwa (32), Simbarashe Makusha (39), all of Mbizo 19, Patrick Tinago (28) of Mbizo 9 and Kelvin Chiwamba (38) of Mbizo 5 lost cash, clothes and cellphones worth US$740 to two armed robbers who pounced on them whilst they were in the river performing water rituals popularly known as ‘manjuzu’ pleasing.
According to sources privy to the case, the nine whilst performing the rituals left their clothes, cellphones, and cash on the river bed before the two robbers approached, accusing them of trespassing on their farm.
“The robbers were armed with a Columbia knife, catapult, and machete. They ordered all complainants to remain in the water and threatened to stab them if they ever resisted their action. They started searching their bags and took the property,” said the source.
The robbers after taking the property fled from the scene.
A police report was made at ZRP Garandichauya, Mbizo under case number RRB 5611100 and no arrest has been made yet.
