Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the theft of US$46,000 from a parked car in Kwekwe’s central business district, which occurred on June 4, 2025.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on Monday confirmed the arrest of Linas Tshuma (40), who was picked up by detectives from CID Homicide in Bulawayo on June 8 following a tip-off. Tshuma is believed to be part of a gang that broke into a Mazda CX-5 vehicle parked along E.D. Mnangagwa Road in Kwekwe and stole the cash.
According to National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the suspects were driving a Toyota Mark X with registration plates AGI 4348 when they committed the crime. The gang reportedly smashed the rear quarter glass of the vehicle to gain access.
“Following Tshuma’s arrest at a house in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo, officers recovered a Samsung M13 cellphone believed to have been purchased using the stolen money. Investigators also seized the alleged getaway vehicle—now bearing registration number AFO 6880 and plates AFA 1529—along with a driller, rivet gun, and various clothes matching CCTV footage of one of the suspects at the scene,” he said.
Police say the operation is ongoing, with at least eight other suspects still at large. These include Thetheleni Ndlovu, Esau Mazarura, Bhekinkosi Tshuma, Mpiloenhle Ndlovu, Xolani Tshuma, Gugulethu Khumalo, and Reason Moyo, also known as Tsorinso.
ZRP has urged members of the public with any information leading to the arrest of the remaining suspects to contact the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp 0712 800197.
