Redcliff to construct water treatment plant

…amid debt talks with Kwekwe

Redcliff Mayor Vincent Shangwa Masiiwa has announced significant strides in addressing the town’s long-standing water challenges through the establishment of a local water treatment plant. The project aims to reduce reliance on water supplied by Kwekwe City Council, which Redcliff currently owes substantial payments.

“We are working closely on the water issue with people on the ground who are developing the working document for the water treatment plant,” said Mayor Masiiwa.

“They are almost through with the document, and shortly, we will adopt it as council so that work on the treatment plant can commence.”

Masiiwa explained that the proposed plant would treat raw water sourced from Sebakwe Dam.

“The source of water remains Sebakwe Dam. Raw water will be taken from Sebakwe, and the treatment plant will be constructed in Redcliff to process it for distribution,” he noted.

In addition to developing its infrastructure, the mayor confirmed ongoing negotiations with Kwekwe City Council regarding the debt owed for water supplies.

“We are still in talks with Kwekwe City Council to come up with a payment plan. Meanwhile, we are urging residents to pay their outstanding bills, especially since the water situation has improved,” he said.
