In a show of compassion and community spirit, Team Corolla Kwekwe Chapter on Saturday donated groceries, clothes, shoes and US$200 to Rugare Old People’s Home in Amaveni.
The gesture, which drew praise from both the home’s administrators and the club’s national leadership, was part of Team Corolla’s ongoing efforts to support the less privileged and give back to the community.
Receiving the donation, Brighton Dube of Medline Pharmacy, who serves as a board member at Rugare Old People’s Home, expressed gratitude to the car club for their generosity.
“First of all, I would like to thank Team Corolla who took the time to source foodstuffs and donated to us. This is a noble gesture which shows that Team Corolla is committed to assisting the less privileged in our community and we are grateful for that,” said Dube.
He said the home, which currently houses seven elderly men, relies heavily on community donations to sustain its daily operations.
“Our day-to-day running of this home depends on donations. We have volunteers who come to help, but we are struggling to give them allowances. Fortunately, we receive some support as ZESA does not bill us for electricity and Kwekwe City Council provides us with free water,” Dube added.
Team Corolla National President Peter Denzel Nyanungo applauded the Kwekwe Chapter for taking the initiative to extend a helping hand to the elderly.
“Our Kwekwe club is now six months old and they have done a good job by extending a helping hand to our elderly members of the community. They came up with the idea to donate, and the whole Team Corolla family across the country chipped in. We brought clothes, shoes, food and US$200 to our beloved parents here,” said Nyanungo.
He added that the donation was part of the club’s broader mission to make a positive impact on society.

“We will continue to assist as Team Corolla. This is not a once-off thing. I am happy with the initiative that our members have taken to support this old people’s home,” Nyanungo said.
Team Corolla Kwekwe Chapter Chairman Phineas Ndhlovu said the spirit of giving back to the community was at the heart of the club’s founding principles.
“When we formed this club, the idea was to give back to the community, and that is the theme we are running with. This is why we saw it prudent to donate to this old people’s home which houses our elderly in the community. This will not be our last stop — we will strive to do more as we assist our community,” Ndhlovu said.
