A ten men gang pounced on Tryper Tight Mining Syndicate in Kwekwe in the early hours of 24 September 2024.

According to Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the robbery occurred around 1205 hours when the gang stormed the mining site, where several workers were present.

“Among those attacked were Coster Mbirimi, of Chief Malisa, Zhombe, Maphosa Gladman from Redcliff, Tinevimbo Makwande from Ivene, Gweru, and David Mangena from Makava Village, Bikita.

As the gang approached, Maphosa, Makwande, and Mangena quickly fled the scene, leaving their cell phones behind. The intruders targeted Mbirimi, assaulting him with beer bottles and sticks before moving on to Muzira, who was asleep in a vehicle. The gang shattered the car windows, forcibly pulled Muzira out, and struck him with an iron bar,” said Inspector Mahoko.

Inspector Mahoko said in the chaos, the suspects stole the cell phones left by the fleeing workers and loaded nearly one tonne of gold ore into a vehicle before driving away.

“The exact value of the stolen gold ore has yet to be assessed,” he said.

Authorities are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station.

“Police are appealing to anyone with information which can lead to the arrest of the suspects to approach their nearest police station,” he said.
