The year 2024 started tragically for 19 year old Moreblessing Tafuruka of Village Matekenya, Chief Chireya, Gokwe after her uncle Learnmore Chagadama (27) was stabbed to death by a man who was escorting her home on 1 January 2024 around 1930hours.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police Tafara Chikava was escorting Tafuruka home when they met her uncle Chagadama. It is said Chagadama questioned why Chikava was escorting his niece home and an argument ensued.

  “It is alleged, that Learmore Chagadama took a switch from a nearby Mopani tree and assaulted Chikava several times all over the body. In retaliation, the latter produced an okapi knife from his trousers pocket and stabbed Learnmore Chagadama once in the chest. He fell screaming for help. Tatenda Tobias Makochekanwa who was in the company of Chagadama tried to refrain Chikava and was stabbed twice in the back. Chikava ran away from the scene after committing the offense. Learnmore Chagadama passed on before being taken to hospital,” said Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Mahoko.

 Police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of Chikava who is at large.

 “We are appealing to members of the public who might have information that can lead to the arrest of Tafara CHIKAVA to approach any nearest police station,” he said.
