A 24-year-old woman from Silobela allegedly killed her husband following a misunderstanding over family welfare on Thursday.

Liona Mbulawa (24) reportedly struck her husband, Brighton Dube (29), with a pot on the forehead and later attacked him with a burning stick. The altercation began when Dube returned home from a local tuckshop where he had been drinking beer.

Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident, which occurred on November 27 at Village Makande, under Chief Malisa in Silobela.

“It is alleged that a misunderstanding arose between the two over family welfare. The dispute escalated into a fight, and Liona Mbulawa took a pot from the fireplace and struck Brighton Dube once on the forehead, causing him to fall to the floor. She then pulled a burning stick from the fire and hit him all over the body,” said Inspector Mahoko.

The altercation drew the attention of a neighbor, Halane Dube, a 79-year-old woman, who intervened and urged the couple to stop quarreling.

“After the caution, she took Liona and her children to her homestead for the night. On the morning of November 28, Liona returned home accompanied by the neighbor and found Brighton Dube’s lifeless body lying in the kitchen,” narrated Inspector Mahoko.

The police have since urged members of the public to resolve their disputes peacefully.

“Once again, the police are appealing to members of the public to solve their disputes or differences amicably using third parties. The use of violence constitutes an offense and leads to unnecessary loss of lives,” advised Inspector Mahoko.

The matter is under investigation.
