“We chose to do this indaba in Kwekwe as it is one of the key areas where small-scale mining is being done. As YMF we subscribe to professionalism in the form of formalization of small-scale mining. We are saying mining should be taken as a business not as a poverty-driven initiative or a get-rich scheme we are rewriting and redefining the small mining narrative by encouraging young [people to run their projects formally,” he said.

Kupfuwa added that they are encouraging young miners to get proper mining rights through the responsible authorities.

Kupfuwa said the Indaba is expected to host experts from various government departments to deal with formalization, compliance and environmental safeguard issues.
