…targets community-centred healthcare growth
Fast-growing pharmaceutical retailer Health Haven Pharmacies is accelerating its expansion in Midlands, opening a new outlet in Msasa near Kwekwe Polytechnic as part of an aggressive strategy to bring healthcare services closer to communities.
Managing Director Priviledge Rimire said the latest branch adds to a growing footprint that already includes a flagship outlet in Kwekwe’s central business district at Stanley House near the Kwekwe Magistrates Court, a branch at Rockodox opposite the commuter omnibus rank, and another in Mbizo.
The expansion underscores the company’s ambitions to position itself as a key player in decentralising access to pharmaceutical services, particularly in underserved urban and peri-urban communities.
“In line with National Development Strategy 2 which prioritises health as a fundamental pillar for achieving an upper middle income society by 2030, we are proud to announce the opening of the new branch in Msasa.
“It’s a milestone in our commitment to delivering accessible, efficient and high-quality healthcare services to the community. This expansion reflects our mission of giving your health a new lift by bringing care closer to the community,” said Rimire.
Rimire hinted at further growth beyond Midlands, revealing that the company is already eyeing Mashonaland West as its next frontier, with plans currently in the pipeline.
The expansion comes at a time when Zimbabwe’s healthcare delivery systems are under increasing pressure, with private sector players stepping in to bridge gaps in access, affordability and proximity of essential medicines.
Rimire said Health Haven’s model is anchored on embedding services within communities rather than relying solely on centralised urban outlets.
“Our resolution is to be more involved in the community as we strive to expand, especially in Midlands. Our community presence should be felt and we are willing to engage with other like-minded stakeholders,” he said.
The company’s rapid branch rollout signals a shift towards competitive, convenience-driven pharmaceutical retailing, where proximity and service delivery are becoming as critical as pricing.
If sustained, Health Haven’s expansion could not only reshape the pharmaceutical retail landscape in Midlands but also test the viability of community-based healthcare delivery models in Zimbabwe’s broader economic transformation agenda.
